Grace is a little over 6 months now and has 2 bottom teeth. She is still teething, I'm not sure which teeth are coming in next, but these must hurt more than the first two because she is fussy and wants to bite everything. She is eating the 2nd foods, but she doesn't like some of the combination ones. They told us to start trying a sippy cup, but she spills more of it than actually drinking it. I would like to know what others have done to get their child to actually drink out of a sippy cup - and maybe what kind of sippy cup they used.

My baby is almost 8 months old, and I haven't tried any sippy cups, mainly because I've seen other people's children become addicted to them worse than a bottle.

I've just gone straight to the cup, which she has done well with. I'll just pour a little juice or water (preferably water, so it won't stain) in a cup and take a sip of it in front of her. She then naturally wants to drink too, and she drinks quite a bit that way.

Anyway good luck. Just be patient and consistent with whatever you choose to do.

My advice is remember that all babies do things at the time that they are ready. She may just not be quite ready to drink out of a sippy cup and that's fine. Just keep trying and she will get it when she's ready. Just remember to enjoy every moment and don't rush her to grow up too fast. Enjoy her now because when she's two it will be hard to remember her as she is now. Also you know your baby best and what is best for her.

With my son I used the sippy cups with the soft top and curved body, so if she can hold a bottle she can hold this cup.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck

The best kind of sippy cup I started off with was the Nuby. You can buy it at wal-mart and the top in made out of silcone just like the bottle. If she knocks it over it won't spill. But if she starts chewing on it, the cup will spill then. If you squeeze the tip the liquid pours out. But it is good for her gums and to learn on.

I used an Avent sippy b/c it interchanges w/the Avent bottles..They have handles and soft nipples so breaking the bottle is easier...My child was drinking out of a sippy at like a month to 2 months old...

When my son started picking up and sitting down his bottle (not just holding it) we started him on a sippiy cup - he was 11 months old. It was only a matter of days before he had the hang of it and we did away with the bottle all together. It was harder for me than it was him, because I loved holding and rocking and feeding him! We used the Nuby because the mouth piece was soft like the bottle.

You are doing great. She will do it when she is ready.

I have a 8 month old who wants NOTHING to do with a sippy cup or bottle. He wants FOOD. At night he will nurse well, but during day he wont even nurse. He is just not interested. I worry if he is getting enough liquids, but he is having sufficient wet diapers. Each child is different.

I only give my six month old baby a sippy cup when i feed him baby food. I'll feed him all of it, then give him his sippy cup. And I use the ones with handles made by nubby or avent. There light weight and easy to hold on to. Plus they're spill proof!!

My daughter is 8 months old and hasn't cut a tooth yet. She has swollen gums, but no teeth. She loves to drink from her sippy cup. I also use the nuby with handles from Wal-Mart.

She will make a mess with it until she gets used to drinking from a cup. Just hang in there and keep giving it to her. She will get the hang of it.
