Thank you for the suggestions on how to get my baby to sleep through the night. We're still not there yet, but maybe one day soon she will surpise us. The doctor told us we could start trying to feed her 1st foods. I was wondering what babies liked the best, and how often I should feed her those, whether I should just do it at night or during the day as well. I don't know how she will do, since she's only 4 months old, but if it will help her sleep I'll try anything.

My DS, Aaron, has been on solids since 4 mths. Now at almost 8 mths he still isn't sleeping thru the night. We had a week where he did, but it seems every little developmental change has him up again. I've resigned myself to not getting a full nights sleep until he starts kindergarten :). When we started him on solids it was rice cereal (1/4 cup mixed w/2 oz formula) in the morning and 1/2 a Stage 1 jar of food at dinner. Just be sure to stick with the same food for several days to make sure Grace doesn't have an allergic reaction. Good luck on sleep - if you figue out a trick that doesn't involve cry-it-out, let me know!

try cereal mixed with formula/breast milk and a jar of fruit just berfore bed. then each time she wakes up in the night let her fuss for about 15-20 minutes before getting her up to feed and she will eventually sleep that 15-20 minutes extra each night until eventually she will be sleeping through the night. i had twins it worked for both. took about two weeks. it was gradual.

I have a 4 year old and a 6 month old. With both of my boys, I gave them solids during the day at first. If they were going to get upset tummies, I didn't it to happen in the middle of the night. We started with cereal and breast milk, but this made my 6 month old constipated (he was 4 months at the time). So we changed to fruit once a day and have worked up to 3-4 jars of 1st foods per day.

I think some babies JUST DONT SLEEP. I have a six month old, who is on solids (cereal, fruits, veggies, ive tried it all). Ive tried feeding right before bed, tried feeding during day, Ive tried it -- It doesnt work. He doesnt sleep. Takes cat naps and thats it. Good luck! If you find an answer Im interested!!!!

When my son was around 3 1/2 months, I started giving him rice cereal in breastmilk...just a little bit. Since babies digest breastmilk faster, the cereal mixed in keeps their tummy happy longer. I was lucky, though. He was sleeping more or less throught the night at 4 months. He'd go to bed at 8, and wake up around 4:30 a.m. to nurse. At that point I just put him in the bed with me, and we both went back to sleep. He's now 11 1/2 months...I miss those days!
