Grace is almost 8 months old. She is crawling and starting to pull up. She has 5 teeth - and cutting more. Summer is here and I don't want her to get burned, so I was wondering what type of sunscreen is the best. Also, when do most babies start eating real food, like pasta and other soft things.

I like to use the Coppertone WaterBabies SPF 50. It seems to work well. I think that they can eat soft foods at 9 months. My little girl preferred crackers to pasta but she is very picky. THe book I got from my doctor said soft finger foods around 9 months so I would say if you feel that she is ready try it out.

I use Banana Boad Kids Tear Free SPF 30. Dirt and sand don't stick to it and it is water proof. And it works really well. I thought my sun was burning at first, but he had a tan that night. My doctor told me that if my son would take table food then give it to him. He never would take baby food. Macaroni, peas, mashed potatoes are all easy for them to swallow.

I think she is at the age that she is ready to start table foods. But, keep in mind if you are not planning to cook every night so that she has something that she can eat, you might want to stick to baby foods for a little while longer. The salt and other seasonings of table food will be more appealing than the bland taste of baby food.

Whatever brand or spf you use, the spray is so much easier to apply (and re-apply, and re-apply, ...). We use the sport version on our 3 year old and 17 month old and they have never had a burn.

I use Coppertone Kids, I think it works best. Regarding the food, be sure to remember the earlier you introduce foods like milk and eggs the more likely a child is to develop an allergy. I would start with crackers and then do soft vegetables but avoid foods that contain milk (cheese) and eggs. My youngest, who I was more willing to feed tablefood at an earlier age, has severe allergies to milk and soy and it is a challenge.
